West Palm Beach, FL – December 8, 2009 – The final stage of the PGA TOUR’s Qualifying Tournament is complete, with seven eGolf Professional Tour players earning their PGA TOUR cards and 35 earning either full or conditional status on the Nationwide Tour. Q-School was conducted in West Palm Beach, FL at Bear Lakes Country Club, on both the Lakes and Links Courses. A total of 170 players ventured to south Florida in hopes of solidifying their 2010 PGA TOUR cards, with the top 25 players and ties earning their spot among the game’s elite. After the top 25 and ties, the next nearest number to 50 earned full exempt status for the first 12 events on the 2010 Nationwide Tour. The remaining players in the field will have conditional status for the initial 12 events, and will be ranked in the order in which they finished. All of the players from Q-School will be subject to a re-shuffle after the first 12 tournaments next year. Martin Flores, Brendon de Jonge, Billy Horschel, David Lutterus, Kris Blanks, Cameron Tringale and Brent Delahoussaye are the seven eGolf Tour players who earned full status on the 2010 PGA TOUR at Bear Lakes. Flores and de Jonge were the leaders of the group with fourth- and fifth-place finishes, respectively. Next year will mark Flores’ first on the PGA TOUR after spending part of 2009 on the Nationwide Tour. In nine starts, Flores collected two top-25 finishes and $21,950 in earnings. For de Jonge, 2010 will represent his third stint on the big tour. After losing his card following his rookie season in 2007, de Jonge returned to the Nationwide Tour in 2008 and finished second on the money list, thus earning his PGA TOUR card for 2009. In his second year on TOUR, de Jonge finished No. 139 on the money list and in turn earned conditional status for the 2010 season. A return trip to Q-School was in order if he was to earn full status for next year, and he did just that with rounds of 70-68-71-69-71-66—415. Horschel graduated from the University of Florida as one of the most decorated college players of the last decade. While in Gainesville, Horschel was named a three-time, first-team All-American; a two-time SEC Player of the Year; a four-time, first-team All-SEC selection, as well as being a selected member of the Walker Cup, Palmer Cup and United States World Amateur teams. After turning professional in June, Horschel claimed his first pro title at the tour’s Columbia Championship in August with a convincing three-shot victory over Dane Burkhart. With three top-10 efforts under his belt, Horschel earned $68,566 on the eGolf Tour and finished No. 12 on the season-ending money list. At Q-School, Horschel put on a magical performance with rounds of 69-70-67-69-72-69—416 and a seventh-place finish. Over the six-round stretch, the Grant, FL native recorded 27 birdies without a single score worse than bogey. To cap it all off, he earned his TOUR card on a very special day – his birthday. Horschel turned 23 on Monday. Lutterus carded one of the best final rounds in recent Q-School memory. After opening with rounds of 75-71-68-69-70, Lutterus fired a final-round 64 to move from T28 to T8 and earn his 2010 PGA TOUR card. Five birdies and four pars on his opening nine allowed Lutterus to turn at 5-under 31 on the Lakes Course. A par-birdie-eagle start to his closing nine quickly moved him to 8-under on his round, where he would eventually finish for a closing 64. His final-round 64 was tied for the lowest round of the day and one shot shy of the lowest round of the tournament. After spending 2008 on the PGA TOUR, Lutterus spent 2009 on the eGolf Tour and made the most of his opportunities with a win and $62,845 in earnings in just 10 starts. The laid-back Australian, who once listed rapper Dr. Dre and Arnold Schwarzenegger as his heroes in the PGA TOUR’s media guide, won the tour’s Bolle Classic in May of this year by outlasting Nationwide Tour players Dustin Bray and Fabian Gomez. Former eGolf Tour player Kris Blanks of Bluffton, SC earned a trip back to the PGA TOUR after losing his card this season. Blanks, who played the eGolf Tour in 2006 and 2007, earned his 2009 TOUR card via the Nationwide Tour in 2008, but was forced to go back to Q-School after finishing No. 170 on the money list. While the 108-hole Q-School marathon surely provides ample time to recover from one bad round, each player ideally tries to avoid an opening-round nightmare. Not Kris Blanks. Five bogeys and a double-bogey led to Blanks carding a first-round 77 and putting himself in a deep hole with five rounds to play. Fortunately for Blanks, Rounds 2-5 gave him a cushion he could only have dreamt of after just 18 holes. Rounds of 65-67-69-68 moved the former Huntington College golfer into a tie for fourth, thus allowing him to comfortably card a final-round 74 and finish three shots clear of the number and in a tie for 12th. Former Georgia Tech star Cameron Tringale managed to successfully navigate Q-School in his first attempt following a star-studded college career and a Walker Cup selection this past fall. Tringale, who turned professional this past fall and played in the eGolf Tour Championship in October, carded rounds of 70-74-69-73-69-67—422 to finish T19 on the week. Entering the day in a tie for 42nd, Tringale began his final round on the back nine of the Lakes Course with a 1-under 35, but quickly made a move on the front nine with an eagle and three birdies between Nos. 3-8. A closing bogey left the Laguna Niguel, CA native one shot clear of the number at 10-under. The most touching story of the day was likely that of longtime eGolf Tour member Brent Delahoussaye, who finally secured his PGA TOUR card on the number with rounds of 74-71-66-68-75-69—423. Following a solid college career at Clemson University, Delahoussaye spent 2005-2007 on the eGolf Tour full time before earning Nationwide Tour status for 2008 and 2009. This past season was his best to date with $73,662 in Nationwide Tour earnings and a third-place finish in the Cox Classic. A potential year-killing 75 in the fifth round was offset with a closing 69 as Delahoussaye played his last 10 holes in 3-under par to make it through on the number. Following the round, he was overcome with emotion in an interview with Golf Channel’s Jerry Foltz after calling his fiancé to give her the good news. A year spent planning a January honeymoon would have to be all for naught as the soon-to-be married couple would have a new tropical destination – Hawaii. Delahoussaye’s first start will be at the Sony Open in Hawaii on January 14-17. “I’ve been trying for so long,” Delahoussaye told the Associated Press following his round. “I’m sure she’ll be all right with going to Hawaii instead.” A total of 17 eGolf Tour players earned full status on the 2010 Nationwide Tour, with three players missing out on their PGA TOUR cards by a single stroke. Kevin Kisner, Gary Christian and Scott Stallings each finished at 8-under 424 and sat one shot outside the number after six rounds and 108 holes. Kisner, a multiple winner on the eGolf Tour, eagled the par-5 third on the Lakes Course to offset an early bogey en route to a front-nine 34. A bogey on the par-4 10th and a birdie on the par-5 17th brought the former Georgia Bulldog star to the watery par-4 18th, where he would record a devastating bogey to finish with a 1-under 71. Kisner would then have to wait over an hour for the final groups to come in and to see what his fate would be. The last player with a shot to move the number to 8-under was South African journeyman Andrew McLardy, who came to the final hole needing a bogey to make it through on the number. After hitting his third shot to the back fringe, McLardy boldly chipped the ball three feet past the hole and managed to will the ensuing putt into the hole, thus making 9-under 423 the official cut line. Among the other 17 eGolf Tour players to earn full Nationwide Tour status were 2009 members Kisner, Stallings, Luke List, Ted Brown, Stephen Poole, Jess Daley, Scott Brown and Bobby MacWhinnie. Eighteen eGolf Tour players earned conditional status on the Nationwide Tour next year. Included in those 18 are former tour winners Kyle Reifers, William McGirt, Alex Hamilton, Chris Rogers, Jay McLuen, David Robinson, Chris Mundorf and Matt Davidson.
